Lap-Band® Weight Loss Surgery

A SIMPLE PROCEDURE COULD CHANGE YOUR LIFE.
Palmyra Medical Center opened the Bariatric Institute of Southwest Georgia in 2002 to focus on and improve the health and lives of those in our community. With more than 60 million adults considered obese, the Institute offers specialized weight-loss treatment options to those who need help with their obesity. The services offered include behavioral, nutritional, and exercise intervention as well as surgical intervention. After a complete medical evaluation, a customized program is developed for each patient. In some cases, this may involve a recommendation for gastric banding, such as the LAP-BAND System®. To date the Bariatric Institute at Palmyra has worked with more than 900 patients. The Bariatric Institute is the largest LAP-BAND® program in the state of Georgia.
What is the Lapband®?
The words LAP-BAND® come from laparoscopic, minimally invasive surgery used, and gastric band, the name of the product used. What happens is that, under general anesthesia, the surgeon makes several small incisions and inserts the gastric band, which is lined with a saline-filled silastic ring. This band is then closed around the top part of the stomach, creating a smaller pouch, thereby reducing the area for food storage. By controlling the size of the opening between the two parts of the stomach, the ring lets you feel full sooner, with the feeling lasting longer. Then, depending on your needs and your post-op progress, the ring can be easily adjusted without surgery by altering the amount of saline solution that lines the band. This is a feature that only the LAP-BAND System® can offer.

What I really find hardest is that people dont take you seriously. That means, in the end, you feel totally alone.
Patient before LAP-BAND® surgery
After years of trying really trying different approaches to losing weight, we understand how frustrating it can be to go through the same old routines, without seeing any significant difference. Thats why we are excited about being able to offer you the latest treatment in weight-loss surgery: LAP-BAND Adjustable Gastric Banding System®.
Now you dont have to feel alone. With the highly professional help from the Bariatric Institute guiding you through the LAP-BAND System® procedure, you could be on your way to finally losing the weight that has kept you from enjoying life the way you deserve.
Up until fairly recently, the only treatments available for weight-loss surgery were the Gastric Bypass and Vertical Banded Gastroplasty, both of which include stapling of the stomach, requiring invasive surgery. Which highlights another big advantage of the LAP-BAND System® since it requires only laparoscopic surgery.
The LapBand® was not only life changing, but it was life saving. The staff at the Bariatric Center is the reason this surgery is so successful.

But the LAP-BAND System® cant perform miracles, especially by itself. A lot depends on you and how much you are committed to changing your lifestyle after surgery.
In order to maximize the benefits of the LAP-BAND System®, you must be dedicated to a new diet and getting exercise. Its no secret that a balanced diet including fresh vegetables and fruits and a prescribed daily regimen of exercise will go far toward helping you achieve your weight-loss goal. And the trained professional team at the Bariatric Institute will provide you with on-going counseling and support to help you get there.
